
Carlton Nelson “colonel” Greathouse, Sr., 69, of Phenix City, Alabama, died Saturday February 19, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm (EST) Tuesday February 22nd at the Bethany Baptist Church in Phenix City with the Reverend Jimmie Hobbs officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867. Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Mancil, Jason Smith, Billy Brannon, Dallas Britton, Jason Mitchell and Daryl Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class of which Carlton was a member.
Mr. Greathouse was born August 14, 1941 in Donaldsville, Georgia, son of the late, Joseph C. Greathouse and Sybil Dixon Greathouse. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Phenix City. He had been a warehouse manager for Hughes Supply Co. Other than his parents Mr. Greathouse is preceded by his brother, Larry Greathouse.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Serena Dawn Greathouse of Phenix City, sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Hope Greathouse of Auburn,AL., Paul and Liz Greathouse of Auburn, AL., daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Dawn and Rodney Niles of Phenix City, Cynthia and Aaron Vickar of St. Louis, MO. Brothers, Shelby Greathouse, Steve Woodham and Kenneth Woodham, Tim Greathouse, Joe Ed Greathouse and Ronald Greathouse, sisters, Cathy Muldrew, Kathy Greathouse and Sandra Greathouse, stepmother, Pearline Barker, grandchildren, Carley, Taylor, Anna-Ragan Greathouse,Caroline and Catherine Greathouse,Cailah Niles, Ansley, Isabelle and Nelson Vickar, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends .Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Family Life Center, P.O.
