January 3rd, 1952 - October 11th, 2025
Charlie Mitchell, 73 of Smiths, Alabama passed away on Saturday, October 11th.
Charlie was born on January 3rd, 192 in Columbus, Georgia to Louie F. and Elizabeth Snellings Mitchell. He grew up off Summerville Road in Phenix City. Charlie graduated from Pacelli High School and Columbus College. Always a hard worker, he started Mitchell's Body Shop in a tiny rented 2 car garage by himself. Charlie grew it into a well, respected business with his own facility on 10th Avenue in Phenix City. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a great love of hunting, and loved all the tractor driving that preparing for hunting season took. After retiring from the auto repair business, he spent many long days enjoying working on his dear friend, Frank Lumpkin's farm. Charlie had a special talent for growing corn, sunflowers and millet. He was well known for having some of the best dove and duck hunts around.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Marsha, sons, Adam and Eric, and brothers, William Patrick and wife, Shree of Columbus, GA and James Allen of Virginia. He became a grandfather (Cholly) at the age of 60 to a granddaughter, Ella Kate, and again 2 years later to grandson, Luke. They were the light of his life. He enjoyed spending mornings in the duck blinds and afternoons on the dove fields teaching them his legacy of the outdoors. We cannot end without mentioning the great group of lunch buddies he shared many great meals and conversations with.
A casual visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16th from 6-8pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Phenix City.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your church or favorite charity in memory of Charlie.
