November 4, 1999 – September 4, 2025
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Dakota Chyanne Gladney Chestnut, who left this world far too soon on September 4th, 2025, at her home — with her beloved son, Charlie, by her side.
Born on November 4, 1999, Dakota was a radiant soul whose presence lit up every room. She was a rare combination of strength and softness, known for her fierce spirit, unwavering loyalty, and a heart that gave without hesitation. Her laughter was infectious, her kindness boundless, and her love for her family, unshakable.
Dakota had a natural gift for caring, always putting others before herself. Whether it was offering comfort, cracking a joke to lift someone’s spirits, or literally giving a stranger the shirt off her back, Dakota lived her life with open hands and an open heart. She was a force wild, kind, beautiful, and brave.
She leaves behind a family who adored her: her Poppy, Clarence Catron, her parents, Julie and Richard Justice; her siblings, Makynsie Gladney and Steven Moseson; her husband, Dakota Chestnut; and her greatest joy, her son, Charlie Chestnut, who was the light of her life. She is also survived by many family members and close friends whose lives were brighter because of her.
Dakota was preceded in death by Charlcie Catron, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
Though her time here was far too short, Dakota’s legacy lives on in every person she touched, in the laughter of her son, the memories shared by those who loved her, and the fierce love she gave so freely. Her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
A gathering for a celebration of life will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, Alabama.
