Chief Petty Officer David Joseph Black, 81, U.S. Navy (Ret), of Seale, Alabama, died Friday August 3, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM EST Tuesday August 7th at the Avalon Woods Baptist Church in Seale,AL. with the Reverend Danny Roberts officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867. Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home. The Patriot Guard Riders will stand honors and provide escort.
Mr. Black was born April 26, 1931 in Superior, Wisconsin, son of the late Joseph P. and Jean M. Black. He served our country honorably for more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy and was a founding member of the Avalon Woods Baptist Church in Seale. Mr. Black also retired from civil service at Ft. Benning.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Irene Black of Seale, his children, Paula Jean Black Cooper and husband, Mark Howard, Daniel Ray Black and wife Leslie Diane, Linda Gail Black , brother, Robert Black, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
