Edith Carden

Edith McLemore Carden. 85, of Smiths Station, Alabama, died Sunday May 1, 2011 in Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. (EDT) Thursday May 5th at the Smiths Station Baptist Church, Smiths Station, AL., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, AL. 36867. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carden was born June 6, 1925 in Cataula, GA., daughter of the late Dallas L. McLemore and Woodie Hunter McLemore. She was the oldest living attending member of the Smiths Station Baptist Church where she had been a clerk since 1979. Other than her parents, Mrs. Carden is preceded by her husband, Charles Homer Carden, sister, Julia Cooper and brothers, Cecil and Dallas McLemore.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Carden of Villa Rica, GA., son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Gilda Carden of Haslet, TX., sisters, Lucille M. Jackson of Columbus, GA., Ellen M. Blocker of Biloxi, MS., Betty M. Kaneaster of Columbus and Katie M. Applin of Eufaula, AL., grandchildren, Jason Norris of Columbus, Jenny Norris of Villa Rica, Austin Carden and wife, Erica, Brandon Carden and wife, Jamie, all of Smiths Station, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
