James was born on January 16, 1936, Girard, Alabama to late Carl L. and Annie B. Morris Chadwick. James grew up with faith, a strong work ethic, and integrity.
James served in the air force in New Mexico. After serving in the air force, he worked as a welder, plumber, and farmer before becoming a trailer driver along the Eastern border.
James enjoyed gardening, fishing, and caring for animals. Together with his wife, he appreciated collecting various items, often stopping along the roadside to retrieve furniture.
James was predeceased by his wife, Diane Ashbaugh Chadwick for fifty-eight loving years, daughter Wyann Chadwick Grimes and his loving dog, Oliver.
James survived by his daughter Carolyn C. Kirkland (Dell Kirkland), and son Dennis James Chadwick, three grandchildren, Jennie Kirkland Franklin (Stephen Franklin), Timothy David Kirkland (Stephanie Kirkland), and Stetson Grimes (Elisa). He had fifteen great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren and five loving sisters.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Phenix City, Lakewood Hall, located at 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867, on February 16, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service is scheduled at First Baptist Church, 2608 Summerville Rd., Phenix City, Alabama, 36867, on February 17, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.
Burial with Military Honors will take place at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 3800 Hwy 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867.
