SFC (Ret) John Edward Martin, born in San Francisco, CA on September 5, 1935, to the late John E. and Loretta Fick Martin. He passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 90. John was a resident of Fort Mitchell, Alabama.
John was known for his adventurous spirit, patriotic dedication, kind-hearted nature, hard-working attitude, and gentle demeanor.
He joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 101st 11th Airborne Division. John retired with over 20 years of service, having served in Vietnam with two tours. During his military career, he earned his Jumpmaster Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge and received two Purple Heart Medals.
John is survived by his niece, Frances M. Drew (Michael) of Ft. Mitchell, AL.
In his personal life, John enjoyed watching old western movies, playing card games with friends, cooking for family and friends, visiting various museums, and was known as a prankster to his friends. Although he never spoke of his own journey through his deployments and military career, he enjoyed telling stories of his adventures and the friendships he created over the years.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL.
