John Steven Stinson, 65 of Columbus, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 19, 2020 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL with Rev. John Fugh officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Mr. Stinson was born October 3, 1955 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Julius Burton Stinson and Betty Sue Storey Stinson of Smiths Station, AL. Other than his father, he was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles. He was the owner of the S&S Company in Columbus, GA and was an avid sports fan.
He started his love of sports during his days at the YMCA, and he was a pillar in the community with his service as volunteer coach for Glenwood School, Columbus High School, Brookstone School and mentor to numerous youth throughout the community. If there was ever a sports event or activity, you would be sure to see Steve there.
Steve was a "die hard" University of Alabama supporter and fan. He was part of the Tide-Pride and never missed a sporting event.
Other than his mother, he is survived by his brother, Scott Stinson and wife, Kim; nieces, Meaghan Stinson and Lauren Gray and husband, Kyle; nephew, Ryan Stinson; uncle, Gerald Storey and wife Eleanor; numerous other relatives and friends.
