

Larry Dean Owens, age 71 of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020, at his home. Larry was the son of the late H.C. Owens and Frances Cowart Owens, born on March 30,1949, in Columbus, Georgia. He attended Central High School, graduated in 1967, and married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Hammond Owens. Together they raised their son, Michael Owens, his pride and joy, with whom he shared his passion for music and Nashville.
Larry was a hometown boy that loved his family and friends. He was kind to everyone that met him. His sense of humor and fun personality will be missed by all that knew him, including many lifelong friends and coworkers from his pre-retirement years at MeadWestVaco. Larry loved Jesus, Alabama Football, and English Setters. He and Gloria bred over 50 English Setter Champions under the Windjammer name and would occasionally go into the ring to show them himself.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gloria Hammond Owens, his son, Michael Owens, both of Smiths Station, AL, Brothers and Sisters in Law, Jimmy and Ann Mann of Smiths Station, AL, and Jerry and Rita Hammond of Blairsville, GA; nieces and nephews, Jerry Hammond of Cornelius, NC, Kim Gonzalez (Gil) of Tampa, FL, Kristi Washburn (Tom) of Tampa, FL, Kevin Hammond (Allison) of Canton, GA, Teresa Mann Franklin (Chris) of Carrollton, MO, Jeff Mann (Jennifer) of Smiths Station, AL, and J.H. Owens of Phenix City, AL; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In keeping with the efforts to assure the safety and health of our community during the current virus pandemic, the family will hold a private burial service at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Alabama.
