

Margie "Maw Maw" Gunter Horton, 72 of Phenix City, Alabama died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City with Rev. Gene Wade and Rev. Freddie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Horton was born July 20, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia; daughter of the late A.B. and Willie Elkins Gunter. Margie has worked at Phenix City Elementary School as a foster grandparent since 2002 with many thanks to the staff and also many thanks to the John B. Amos staff for their love and support, especially Connie Johnson.. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl Gunter and Robert Gunter..
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Paul C. Horton of Phenix City, AL, sons, Chris Horton (Sharon) and Keith Horton (Dawn) of Salem, AL, grandchildren, Amon Horton (Chrissy), Cassie Evelyn Horton, Conner Fuller all of Salem, AL, Caleb Horton and Bryanna Horton of Smiths Station, AL, great grandchild, Charlee Horton, siblings, loving sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Bauer, nephew and niece, Anthony and Denise Creamer, special friends; Charles and Ann Thompson, special friends, students and caregivers from P.C.E.S., Leah Mason, Amanda Nelson, Robin Thomas, Renee Lee, and Melanie Garza all of fifth grade,Heather Vanderboom and Laura Powers of second grade, Ann Overton of first grade, Christy Kushmar, Samantha Milligan, Ashlee Tate and Yolanda Phillips all of Kindergarten, many nieces, nephews and her faithful, loving pet "Buster".
