Mary Ellen Mitchell

Mary Ellen Mitchell, 79 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. EST in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867 with Rev. Robert Goodman officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Serving as pall bearers will be Duaine Hathaway, Tommy Hathaway, Mike Norris, Greg Scott, Mike May, Dr. Jack Sherrer, Mitchell Holt and Marty Orvin. Honorary pall bearers are the Ladies 3 Sunday School Class of Summerville Baptist Church, the Betty Hutto Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Jill Milner and Ruthanne Edge. The family will receive friends Friday from 2pm until 3pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born May 10, 1933 in Black, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Clyde Bynum Hathaway. She was a homemaker and member of Summerville Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence Hathaway, Jr., Eugene Hathaway and her sister, Gloria Norris.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Charles W. Mitchell of Phenix City, AL, daughter, Lynne Bennett and husband, Danny of Millen, GA, a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
