Born in Hartford, Connecticut Nick was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and graduated with honors from Bulkeley High School. Nick was elected to attend The United States Military Academy by his Congressman in Westpoint, NY for college, where he joined the Judo team. Upon graduating in 2004, Nick began his career as an Armor Officer, stationed primarily in Friedberg, Germany. Nick served 13 years of active duty, including two OIF tours to Iraq, serving as a tank commander during his second deployment. His love for travel took him to 23 different countries during his lifetime.
Nick obtained an MBA from Auburn University and was Sixth Sigma Green Belt certified. He worked as a civilian project manager for The Maneuver Center of Excellence at Ft. Moore in the office of the Armor Commandant.
Nick received the following awards while serving in the U. S. Army, Combat Action Badge; Air Assault Badge; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; 7th Cavalry Regiment; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy Unit Commendation; Armor School; 1st Armored Division; and 4 Combat Stripes.
He was a very devoted husband, beloved son, and excellent father to his 3 kids. He spent his weekends with his family, developing his passion for The Philadelphia Eagles (Fly Eagles Fly), Star Wars and Sunday dinners. He was a devoted member of the SSUSA/Blazer family, both as “Mason’s Dad” and as a state certified official . Nick always showed up and was present for those he loved.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sara Abigail (Pierce) Simpson; his loving children, Mason Nicholas Simpson (9), Addison Belle Simpson (6), and Samuel Nicholas Simpson (4); his loving parents, George and Donna Simpson of Hartford, CT; his parent’s in- law; Katherine and Ernest Pierce of Salem, AL; his siblings, Melissa Manley and Tiffany Stephens.
His nieces and nephews, Jaden and Mia Manley, Scarlett and Winston Chesser, Harrison, Theodore and Everett Pierce; as well as many loving god-children, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Nick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pablo and Joyce Roman (FL), Donald Robinson (PA) and William and Fidelis Simpson (CT).
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Smiths Station Baptist Church, 2460 County Road 430, Smiths Station, AL 36877 on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 10:00AM. Pastor David Kees will be officiating services. Family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening, December 5, 2023 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 US 431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
A Memorial Service will held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 1230-1300 at the Tedford Chapel, Bldg 4205, Harmony Church, Ft. Moore, GA.
