

Reba S. Brown 76 of Waverly Hall, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Columbus Hospice House. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL. A private interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett, Alabama.
Mrs. Brown was born January 15, 1939 in Albany, Georgia; daughter of the late Lemuel H. Strength, Sr. and Mary F. Brown Strength and has lived in Columbus, Georgia area since 1972. She was a graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing. Her career in nursing consisted of many years of service with Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of GA, Columbus Regional Medical Center, Doctors Hospital and the American Red Cross. She received the Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1974, the Clara Barton Medal for spearheading the beginning of the American Red Cross Blood Program for the Columbus area. She was a Contact Volunteer, a member of the American Red Cross Board of Directors, Chairman of the March of Dimes, Friends Unlimited, Founder of Neuropathy Support Group, Columbus, Lifetime Member of the Columbus Regional Medical Center Auxillary and a volunteer with Paws Columbus. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Brown and her son, Russell Duane Fleharty.
Survivors include her son, Michael D. Fleharty and wife Amy of Waverly Hall, GA, daughter, Cynthia K. Gossett and husband Donnie of Kennesaw, GA, step-daughter, J. Michele Brown Welsh and husband, Mike of Mt. Washington, KY, brother, Buddy Strength of Americus, GA, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Reba's wish was to make donations to Paws Humane or to Columbus Hospice.
