Susan taught school for a couple of years before being hired in 1970 at Glenwood School when the school opened. She taught for 38 years there - the longest for any teacher at the school. In addition to teaching, she performed many other duties through the years such as spelling bee sponsor, cheerleader sponsor, math team sponsor, Booster Club officer, etc. She supported all sports teams and organizations at Glenwood. Through the years, she and Ronnie enjoyed traveling to the University of Alabama football games and tailgating with their best friends Charlie and Nancy Bunton.
Being outdoors and planting flowers was a love of hers. Spring time was her favorite. Her favorite vacation place was the beach. For many, many, many years, she enjoyed family vacation trips to the beach. She was a part of the Purple Hat Society with her closest teacher friends - Ann Ragan, Debbie Newsome, Terra Kirkland, Anne Baldwin, Janis Bell, and Donna Tillman. Most of all, she loved going to her grandchildren's games-basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, softball, cheer competitions, football games, dance recitals, and gymnastics. She loved her grandchildren more than anything and was a part of everything they did. She was known as Susie by her grandchildren and was so loved by them. The name stuck, and everyone called her Susie. She was the sweetest Susie ever and had the prettiest smile.
Thank you to her caregivers (Mrs. Junita, Ms. Gina, and Ms. Max) for taking such wonderful care of her and loving her just like their own family.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Glenwood School in memory of Susan F. Weaver.
