A visitation for family and friends for Walter will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867. Following the visitation for family and friends will be a celebration of life funeral service at 2:00 PM. A private burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mr. Pope was born April 21, 1934 in Moultrie, Georgia; son of the late Sir Walter Pope and Ida Bell Howell Pope. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL. He was retired from Taff's Grocery in Phenix City as a butcher after 29 and spent many more years at Delta Foods in Smiths, AL with a total of 47 years in the grocery business.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Pope, son, Stanley Earle Pope and wife, Yolanda, grandson, William Storm Pope all of Smiths, AL and sister, Carolyn Clark of Eufaula, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL or to the family.
