Fred was also known as "Freddie Bear" and" Fast Freddie" by many of his closest friends throughout the years. He was saved by grace in faith of belief in Jesus Christ. He attended the Church of the Highlands.
He was a business entrepreneur in many ways. He started with Columbus Heating & Air in the early 70's, and continued with Columbus Builders in the 80's. He was always looking for an opportunity to use his talents. Later on in life he became owner and operator of Phenix Drag Strip where he had just as much fun as he did work. The last several years of life he continued to work in business ventures with his son.
Fred was a great man of strength, with a strong work ethic who devoted his life to always looking out for his neighbor and making the lives of those around him better. He always found the good in everyone. He was a generous giver in all things. He had the gift of hospitality and he loved to entertain. He was always the life of the party. Fred had one speed in life, and it wasn't idle. Some of his favorite past times were spent stock car racing, antique cars, fishing, traveling and making one man's junk , his treasures... just ask his family. He loved his furry companion "Jeze", but out of all things he loved in life, his family was his greatest treasure. Fred was the example of faith, hope and love. He was a husband, father, pawpaw, brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sheila Pate.
Fred has received his ultimate healing. The family would like to thank Dr. Daryl Ellis, Dr. Keith Fuller with Southeast Hospice, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Michael Mitchell (Physical Therapist) and all the medical staff at Piedmont and John B. Amos Cancer Center for the excellent medical care and compassion that was provided over the past three years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the Highlands for the Legacy Highlands Building Projects Fund.
