People in general want to live, and they like to be liked. I say don't do that. You live for you. Live to make a difference, stand up for something that you believe in.
When you stop to reflect on what you have and what it took to get there, you realize the greatest gift is you giving back.
     "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present."

Benny Escalante   has always been considered a brother to me because our families have always been so close. George and Benny were the icons of Micky Mouse where we grew up and boy I could always depend on those wonderful friends and so did the neighbors . George did the teasing and Benny was the silent one but they sure made a great team. They were an example of brotherly love. I also felt so envious of them because they could explore and go where ever they wanted but us girls were so restricted in that era. Those two and Nellie Gonzales were always up to something muy traviesos but good boys. Benny being the quiet one he was every body's dream but no one could get his attention because those guys were inseparable being boys and being the Huckleberry Finns of Mickey Mouse enjoying the beautiful playground we had in back of our yards. The buttes, the running river,the canals, the creative games we all played in the wonderful place we lived at. They had more adventures right there in our own backyards. When I started doing the history of the Barrios of Tempe they were there to help me with their knowledge of what the boys did after doing their chores. they fished , they hiked, they rode bikes, they made their own sling shots, their own kites, had their own contest in playing  marble games and such. Whatever we had they could develop it to a game. They sure had it together, those two. One just as good as the other.   They were the icons of our generation in that barrio. Like Chris said they were our living legends of our time. the things they use to do to aggravate us girls and the fun and games they had created using their great imaginations. These two boys were always together.  When the death of their dad came by they became men of responsibilities,quit school and worked hard like grown man. They were Mr Samora''s best Cotten pickers, then they worked at Hayden flour Mill, then Fleming Warehouse, because of their work ethics they were hired right away at all places. Benny we are going to miss you but I know you got tired of being sick. My endearment name I gave you as a child was Benushi.  Chris and I will miss you but I know now you're with your family in Heaven and having you there with Georgie I know you are happy. te doy mi despedida Ve con Nuestro Senor mi amigo,mi hermano del barrio y gracias por la riquesa que tu y el Georgie me dieron cuando vine para el Mickey Mouse sus amistades. go with God Benny Benush. Thank you for your lasting friendship and the informational help you gave me when I was back home trying to place our Hispanic History in the Tempe Museum. Chris and I are already missing you a lot because you were so special in our hearts. Go with God and say hello to all our friends for us we will continue praying. Sing  loudly with my Tia and all your family for us lost souls that are left behind.

My daddy Benny was very loved by all who knew him, my dad loved gardening, dad spent most of his time out doors and shopping dad loved Walmart and park n swap on Fridays with knock kneed or rositas on 24 th at McDowell after. he loved his children and grandchildren. Dad will be missed, daddy is in Heaven with a brand new body no more pain or sickness. It was my honor to have helped take care of dad if I had to do it all over again I would I will treasure the time I had with him all the way to the end of his last breath, daddy I will miss hearing those words of "COME On MAN" and the looks you would give mercy and I this is not a good by but I"ll see u again in Heaven much love to you daddy and I'm lost now because I have 6 bus tickets left with no where to go love you always and I miss you until then, by my  zorrillo #1  from zorrillo #2
