Cheryl Fyrn Langenberg, 71, of Tempe, Arizona passed away in her sleep on March 12, 2016. She is survived by her two sons: Earl Langenberg, 44, and his girlfriend, Khamla Wolfe of San Diego, California; and Mark Langenberg, 40, of Canon City, Colorado; and her two brothers: Richard “Dick” Worcester, 73, and his wife, Nan Freeman of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and James Worcester, 60, and his wife, Claudia Worcester of Laurel, Mississippi.
Cheryl was born on September 19, 1944 to Bill and Rose Worcester in Bellevue, Ohio, their second child of three and their only daughter. Her family moved to Douglas, Arizona while Cheryl was very young. She thrived in the desert where she won first place in her intermediate school’s spelling bee and developed her lifelong love for animals, particularly horses. She rushed to get home from school each day so that she could care for and ride her horse around the neighborhood. She also learned to play the flute and, though unable to read written music, her talent for learning pieces quickly by hearing alone enabled her to perform in her high school’s marching band and to maintain her passion for playing music, for her personal enjoyment as well as before live audiences, throughout her life.
She graduated from Douglas High School in Douglas, Arizona in 1962, went on to graduate from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Phoenix, Arizona in 1965, and embarked upon her career as a Registered Nurse. Cheryl’s joy in caring for animals was exceeded only by her joy in caring for people, be they family, friends, or patients. In more than a few cases, those groups of people overlapped each other as she consistently strove to give of herself towards the betterment of others. She spent 33 years of her career at SurgiCenter of Phoenix, building and nurturing many friendships that remained close beyond her retirement in 2012.
She cherished time spent with her family, her friends, her dog, Reggie, serving as a volunteer at the Phoenix Zoo, and her newer hobbies, including yoga classes at the YMCA and playing music with The Looney Tooner Kitchen Band of Tempe, a volunteer ensemble that plays for Arizona seniors in retirement homes, assisted care facilities, and at community events.
