

Ruben Leon Vizzerra was born in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico to Herminia Leon and Frank Vizzerra on March 8, 1940. His family moved to Arizona when he was a young child and he attended school in Tempe, graduating from Tempe Union High School, he played the trumpet in the high school band. There he met his wife Geraldine (Gerry) Mercado and after their graduation, they got married and their family grew to include four children: Christina, Belinda, Angelina, and Ruben jr. Ruben then attended Barber College and soon had his own shop: Mr. Lucky Barber Shop. Ruben also played the trumpet with several mariachi groups including “Los Alegres” the St. Catherine Mariachi.
After a lengthy illness caused by complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ruben passed away on October 16, 2023. Ruben is survived by his wife Gerry, his children: Christina, Angelina (David), and Ruben. His sister Mary Helen Reynolds, and eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents: Frank and Herminia Vizzerra, His sister Carmen Hernandez, and his daughter Belinda Vizzerra Santos.
