Alfred was born in Los Angeles, California in 1941 to Serafina and Nicholas Martinez. He grew up with two sisters and three brothers. As a teen, he loved spending time with his friends especially his good friend Duke, and playing the guitar. He attended Garfield High School in Los Angeles California. Shortly after he started his career as a line haul and long haul truck driver.
In his twenties he met Linda Cardenas, both were in a mutual friend’s wedding. He was determined to win her over, after many attempts (and their first kiss) they fell in love and got married. They enjoyed their small home in Montebello, California, hosting family parties, and taking drives in his 1956 black Ford. Not long after they started a family, complete with William, Monique, Dominic and Angelique. As a family they loved camping, sports, pool parties, vacations to Disneyworld, Veracruz and Acapulco Mexico. He was a kind and loving husband to his wife as well as a proud father and grandfather. Being a dependable father was of the utmost importance to Alfred and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.
After working as a truck driver for 38 years Alfred decided to retire. He enjoyed spending time working on his classic car and truck, going to Sunday mass with his Compa Jack, watching the Dodgers and Lakers play on TV, he never missed a game. He also loved his grandchildren like no other, always joking around with them, attending school functions, and going to his grandsons baseball games, no matter how far. He drove his wife all over the US, also to visit every mission in California, as well as just casual drives to the beach, or out to lunch at any local Mexican restaurant.
In addition to his wife Linda of 56 years and William, Monique, Dominic and Angelique, Alfred is survived by his grandchildren, Andrew, Brandon, Mila and Marshall and his siblings, Ernie, Terry, Linda and Robert. He was preceded in passing by his brother Richard.
Alfred’s sharp wit, sense of humor, and kind heart will be deeply missed.
