Steven Henry VanHoeck, affectionately known as Popsicle Steve or simply Pops, was born on January 11, 1950, in Michigan. After spending his formative years there, Steve followed his adventurous spirit, living in Alaska, Virginia, traveling abroad, and ultimately finding his way to Louisiana—where he made his home, all thanks to his beloved Brookie Cookie.
Steve’s greatest joy and proudest role was being “Pops” to the kids who chose him. At just the right moment in their lives, he stepped in as a grandfather figure and embraced that role wholeheartedly, serving with love and devotion until his final breath. He will be forever remembered for his thoughtful gifts, endless words of encouragement, willingness to lend a helping hand, and the many treasured memories he created—especially cherished moments like Howdy Doody time.
Steve is survived by his favorite girl and man's best friend, Ellie, and his family in Louisiana: Victoria, Ashley, Lauren, Brooke, Ace, Ava, Sandy, Erika, and Ethan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Leonard VanHoeck, and his Uncle Ray Johnson and Aunt Joyce Johnson.
In true Steve fashion, his wish was for no funeral and no fuss. He was a simple man who loved deeply and gave generously, yet never sought attention for himself. Though he may no longer be with us in person, Steve will forever remain in our hearts. His spirit, love, and legacy remain with us until we meet again.
