Edward Joseph "Ed" Millar, 78, of Deerfield Beach, FL was born in Hawley, PA, on April 1, 1943, to Charles Millar and Lillian O'Hara Millar. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Walter Millar, Douglas Millar, and Richard Millar. Edward is survived by his daughter, Amy Millar, son Brian Millar, and sister, Gail Karn.
Ed graduated from Scranton Preparatory High in 1961. He later moved to Pompano Beach, Florida where he worked for his brother at American Electric. He attended the University of Florida where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education and was elected president of the Newman Club in 1966. He began his career in education as a math teacher at Deerfield Beach Junior High School, then taught math and was the athletic trainer at Deerfield Beach and Coral Springs High Schools. It was at Deerfield Beach High that he was dubbed Dr. Duck, the nickname he embraced the rest of life. In addition to his teaching career, he also worked for Publix Super Market for 21 years.
He was an active parishioner at St Elizabeth Catholic Church for over 50 years. He was a Lifetime Member of The Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight in 1974/1975 and served several terms as Financial Secretary. He also served as a volunteer at Broward Health North and continued to stay involved with high school athletics as a score keeper for Coral Springs High School volleyball and basketball games. Ed cherished the connections that he made throughout his life. He rarely missed a high school reunion, either his own or the many classes he taught throughout his long career. In recent years, he could be found nearly everyday at IHOP, where he received red carpet treatment and never had to wait in a line and at Muddy Waters where many of the staff and regulars became a second family to him
Ed embraced life. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and a stubborn streak a mile long. He was infamous for foisting Paddy’s Whiskey on the unwilling. He was a beloved father to his children, and a teacher mentor and friend to many.
