Faye Florence Mary Mullarkey (nee Gallimore), formerly of Lighthouse Point, Florida; Wells, Maine; and Ashland, Massachusetts, passed away from underlying health conditions exacerbated by COVID-19. She lived a long, full life of 96 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Thomas Joseph Mullarkey, her mother; Christine Brigid Gallimore (nee Power), her father; Lewis Florian Gallimore, her sister; Joyce, and her brother; Kevin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Darragh (Charles) Porter and Erin (David) Mullarkey-Curliss, four grandchildren; Meaghan (James), Matthew (Allyson), Michael, and Maeve; three great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Amelia Faye, and Rhys; sister-in-law, Shirley; nieces; Mary Patricia (Barry), Elizabeth (Thomas), Kathleen (Donn), Julianne, Jennifer, and Paula (Edward); nephew, Russell (Santina); and their families, many cousins, and many, many friends.
Faye earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Salem Teachers College in 1945, and a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Florida Atlantic University in 1978. She taught baton twirling for many years. She was a competition judge and organizer of the New England Championships held at the Brockton Fair in Massachusetts, and hundreds of students benefited from her lessons. She was also a public school teacher in Massachusetts and Florida, including many years at Tedder Elementary school in Deerfield Beach, and she inspired a love of learning in her students. She was passionate about helping youngsters develop problem-solving skills and gain self-confidence.
Faye was a devout Catholic and she lived out her faith in action. After her retirement, she volunteered her time with several charitable organizations. She made life better for every person she met in her natural, sunny way; through kind words, genuine compliments, and warm smiles. She was always ready to lend a hand, and she modeled gratitude and showed respect to all.
Faye enjoyed her family and friends, traveling the world with her husband, Tom, walking along the beach, swimming, and baking treats for others. She noticed and appreciated life’s small joys: the giggles of a toddler, a student mastering a new skill, the bright colors of autumn leaves.
The family is very appreciative of the care and love “Miss Faye” received from the nurses and staff at Saint Leonard’s in Centerville, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 380 South Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach, Florida. Faye will be buried with her husband, Tom, in the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida. The family will receive friends at the Kraeer Funeral Home Sample Road Chapel, 1199 NE 36th Street, Pompano Beach, Florida, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020.
