Juana Suarez De Jesus was born in Rincon, Puerto Rico on February 28, 1933 to Julia Chaparro and Anatalio De Jesus. She married at the age of 19 to Tomas Suarez. In June 1967, at the age of 34, she migrated from Puerto Rico to Boston, Massachusetts along with her eight children; at the time the children ranged in age from 2 - 14 years old.
In her pursuit of a better life for herself and her family, she learned and adapted to a new culture, environment and language. She resided in Dorchester, Massachusetts during the Civil Rights Movement.
She was a hard working single parent always giving of herself so that her children would not go without. She was deeply committed to her faith. She showed us a strong work ethic, family values and faith in God and showed us how to work together as a family unit to accomplish any goal. She taught us that through hard work and perseverance that any goal was within our reach and any obstacle could be overcome. As we grew we saw this demonstrated by her love, attention and dedication to all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Throughout the years of her own personal challenges with her terminal disease she continued to demonstrate these values. She showed us her courage and strength once again by making the difficult decision to stop Dialysis. She wanted to live her final days surrounded by her most cherished accomplishment, her loving children and family. We feel blessed as a family to have been allowed to spend the last few weeks with our dear, beloved Mom, Ma, Mami, Lady Jane, Juanation, Chulita and of course, Mamita! We will always love you and carry you in our hearts as we face life without you and always think of you when we ask ourselves, what would Mamita do?
