It is with both sadness and gratitude that we share the passing of Margaret Ann Balistreri. As the daughter of Joseph S. and Rita Balistreri, Margaret was part of a family that helped build St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Lighthouse Point. She cherished her lifelong role in the parish, participating in the choir and remaining a devoted member from childhood.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on March 1, 1952, Margaret was the second of six children. She met her husband, Herbert Hays, at a Toastmasters Club in Ft. Lauderdale, and they married in March of 1998 at St. Paul’s. They enjoyed 26 happy years together until Herb’s passing in 2024. They made their home in Lighthouse Point, surrounded by family.
Margaret is survived by her siblings: Kathryn R. Balistreri (Lake Toxaway, NC), Anne M. Harrell (Marietta, GA), Joseph E. Balistreri, Carol J. Balistreri, and James M. Balistreri (all Lighthouse Point, FL). She also leaves behind 10 cherished nieces and nephews, along with 18 grand-nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in Margaret’s honor to Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Hospital.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Lighthouse Point, FL, on Thursday, May 7th, at 9:30 a.m. A gathering will follow the service to celebrate her life.
