Longtime Florida resident, Steven Scott McAvoy, 64, died suddenly at home during the holiday season.
Born January 1, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Thomas McAvoy and Catherine (Perna) McAvoy. His father tragically died in Brooklyn when Steven was 24 years old, a heartbreak he endured his entire life. He is survived by his mother, Catherine, his sister, Jo Ann McAvoy-Delahunt and her spouse Edward, and their three children Tavis, Edward and Caitlin.
Steven served in the US Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran.
After his honorable discharge from the US Navy he remained in California and became an avid scuba diver and instructor.
His other hobby was metal detecting.
Steven eventually moved to Florida and became a respiratory technician, working many years at Mercy hospital in Miami.
He had a fondness for all animals and loved his 3 dogs, Lakota, Apache, and Comanche.
Interment will be at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida on Monday January 30 at 10:30am.
A “Celebration of Life” Memorial will be held at the Cooper City American Legion Post #321 on Saturday February 4th at Noon.
