Barbara Jean Bienvenu was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Barbara was born in Port Arthur, Texas on February 3, 1935 to John and Falba Bienvenu, joining her older sister Beverly. Barbara’s father passed away when she was young. Several years later her mother remarried and gave birth to two additional children, her sister Becky and her brother Carl.
Her entire life was spent with love and devotion to Jesus Christ. He was number one to her and she truly leaned on Him and trusted in Him for everything. Her family and friends were also an integral part of her life. Barbara had such a sweet, friendly, happy spirit and she never met a stranger. If you were lucky enough to cross paths with her, you remembered her.
Trinity Baptist Church was her church home for many years. During this time she spent countless hours in the nursery caring for everyone’s babies. She had such a special love and talent with children and she was everyone’s favorite baby sitter. Parents and children alike always wanted Barbara to baby sit for them.
In later years, Procter Street Baptist Church would become her second church home. She loved the people, Brother Rick and activities that she was involved in there. Many of her church family and friends from Trinity Baptist Church attended here with her.
In 2010 Barbara moved to Houston, Texas to be near her dear sister Becky. The transition was difficult for her as she missed her friends and church family in Port Arthur so very much. In an effort to connect with new Christian friends, Barbara became involved in Houston Northwest Baptist Church and joined a Sunday School class full of wonderful, caring women that she called her dear friends.
To the very end, Barbara remained an active, upbeat individual that had a personality and giggle that was contagious to all. While we have lost a dear sweet soul for now, we know that we will reunite with her again in Heaven.
