Frank "Gip " Briggs, age 96, of Groves, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Born in McLendon, Texas, on January 20th, 1929, to Wilma Acrey and John Briggs, Frank lived a life filled with love, dedication, and community.
Gip was a hardworking and proud employee of Texaco, where he began working at the age of 19. Through his years of service, he rose to the position of Instrument Foreman before retiring after a fulfilling career. Frank also loved his country and was proud to serve in the United States Air Force. His work ethic, dedication and commitment to his job were matched only by his devotion to his family.
A man of deep faith, Frank was a Catholic who lived his life by treating others with kindness and compassion. He was a warm, social person who cherished time spent with loved ones and friends. Frank was especially fond of his wife, Mary "Liz" George Briggs, who passed before him. They were married for 73 loving years. Together, they shared a love for bowling, an activity that brought them many years of joy. Frank also enjoyed hunting, playing golf and his favorite pastime—tinkering in his garage. He was a familiar face every week at Raos Bakery, where he met with his friends for coffee, even at the age of 95.
Frank’s legacy of love and kindness lives on through his three daughters: Susan Bigelow, Linda Evans, and Julie Jeansonne. He is also survived by four grandchildren Brad Bigelow, Heather Bigelow LeBlanc (Terry), Ryan Jeansonne and Phillip Jeansonne. As well as 6 great grandchildren Haiden Bigelow, Jonah LeBlanc, Jackson Haile, Jillian Haile, Adelaide LeBlanc and Asher Bigelow
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary "Liz" George Briggs, his son Terry Briggs, his father John Briggs, his mother Wilma Acrey, his brothers Manson and Johnny Briggs, his sister Martha Briggs, and his granddaughter Jessica Evans.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 4100 Lincoln, Groves, Texas 77619. A funeral service will follow, and Frank will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves, Texas 77619-2859.
