Dr. Gene Wilfred Lene

Dr. Gene Wilfred Lene, 78, of Port Arthur, passed away, Saturday, November 5, 2016. Gene was born February 18, 1938 to the late Wilfred and Orie Lene. Gene served in the United States Army and retired from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio as a Geologist.

Gene had a good life surrounded by people who loved him. He always loved to help anyone he could with whatever they needed. He was a draftsman in the United States Army. After leaving the service he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree at Lamar University. He went on to teach and work his way up to professor and chairman of the earth sciences department at St Mary’s University. During these years, he received a master’s degree from Bowling Green University and ultimately a doctor of philosophy degree from University of Texas.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred Woodrow Lene and Orie Cleste Porter Lene; and wife, Jackie Lene.

He is survived by his son, Joel Lene and wife Tonya of Vidor; eight brothers and sisters, Darlene Ard, Dixie Kethley, Richard Lene, Mike Lene, Tim Lene, Dennis Lene, Terry Lene and Cindy Buckner. Mr. Lene also leaves behind grandchildren, Ross Lene, Stephanie Campos, Christopher Junot and Matthew Lene; great-granddaughter, Amelia Campos and expecting one great-granddaughter, Olivia Campos to cherish his memories.

The Lene family will be receiving friends and relatives Sunday, November 6, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2016, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, with Full Military Honors to be provided by the Southeast Texas Veteran’s Service Group. Honorary Pallbearers include: Richard Lene, Mike Lene, Tim Lene, Terry Lene, Dennis Lene and Jack Kethley.
