

Gloria Ann Dupree Hughes, 82, of Port Arthur, was born, April 15, 1930, to Lucious Dupree and Christiana Lewis Dupree. She attended Charlton Pollard (Beaumont) and Abraham Lincoln High School in Port Arthur. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a Lab Tech and Phlebotomist and retired after 43 years of service. After retiring she worked as a volunteer for Experience Corp, working at a number of elementary schools around the city. She aided the elderly by sitting and comforting them in their needs. Gloria loved to garden, knit and crochet and many of her items were given as gifts of love to friends and people in need.
Gloria accepted Christ as her Savior and Lord at a very early age. She was an active member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church to more than 60 years. She involved herself in many of the ministries and activities of the church. She loved to share Jesus Christ with all that she had opportunity to meet. Her smile and kind manner was a comfort to many.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Lucius and Anna Dupree, son, Calvin Sperling, grandson, Keithan Sperling.
She leaves to cherish her memory; son, Kenneth Sperling of Port Arthur; daughters, Cheryl Mann Hilbring and her husband William of Port Arthur; Cynthia Christopher of Beaumont; grandchildren, Patrick Palmer and his wife Holly, Preston Palmer, Julian Christopher, Zachary Mann, Jr.,Tawana Sperling, Tabrina Rieves, Calvin Sperling II, Tamekia Sperling, daughter in law, Marsha Sperling of Detroit, MI., and 20 great grandchildren, cousins, Noah, Lillian, Rose, Debra, D.J., Connie and Geena of Lakes Charles, La.; and several cousins in Beaumont, Texas. Special friends and supporters: Gladiola and Michael Campbell, Jackie Fitzgerald and family, Rose Sewell and family, the Jenofer family, Ms. Perline Hilstock, Mrs. Fannie Comeaux and Myrtle Scott.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Avila Arcala and her staff, Dr. Alumpour, Dr. Jayaraj, Dr. Amin, the E.R. and Dietary staff of Medial Center of Southeast Texas, PACC Control room at Valero, and Valero Supervision , you all know who you are.
A gathering of family and friend will be held on Friday, September, 21, 2012, from 5:00p.m. To 8:00p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2:00p.m. at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Port Arthur.
