It is with heartfelt love and deep sorrow that the family of Mary Ethel Blevins, 75, of Groves, Texas, shares her passing on October 30, 2025. Born on August 28, 1950, Mary lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and devotion. She was a kind-hearted woman whose gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Althea Metcalfe; her beloved husband, Michael Blevins; sister Patricia Rayburn and two precious grandchildren, Chris Jones and Jase Denton.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory — her children, Rodney Denton, Mylissa Oderbert, and Maranna Barefield and husband Donnell; her sisters, Kathy Hurst and Jeanie Metcalfe Sanders; grandchildren Haley Denton, Alexis Gilmore, Alexander Collier Jr., Chloe Oderbert, Kiara Barefield, Addison Denton, and Julian Arceneaux; and her great-grandchildren Shaun Ramirez, Christyne Ayala, Romeo Iglesias, Mason Collier, Aubrey Collier, Omari Barlow, and Avah Brown.
For more than 30 years, Mary devoted herself to the students and staff of Nederland ISD, where she was admired for her dedication, warmth, and genuine care. Beyond her professional life, she was most fulfilled in her role as “Granny,” finding immeasurable joy in the laughter and love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary’s creativity and zest for life were evident in her love for photography, crafting, and singing with her sisters — moments that reflected her joyful soul and strong family bond.
Mary Ethel Blevins will be remembered for her unwavering love, steadfast faith, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
