Vernon Coody entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday, January 26, 2020 in Beaumont, TX. He was born in Shannon, Texas on October 15, 1919, but he resided in Port Arthur for most of his adult life. He attended Bethany Nazarene College where he met and married Aline, his wife of 72 years. They raised their 3 children in Port Arthur.
Vernon and Aline were devout and faithful members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Port Arthur. After Aline passed away in 2015, he moved to Kountze to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Harold Schram. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church in Lumberton, TX.
He worked as a chemist in the laboratory at Neches Butane (now Texas Petrochemical) until his retirement. He had an unbridled curiosity and numerous hobbies and self-taught skills. Some of his hobbies include photography, wood carving (started at 75), rock collecting, making jewelry, beekeeping, repairing electronics and appliances, and gardening, including grafting Camellias for entry in flower shows,
Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Aline, and a sister and brother, Zela Baugh and Darwyn Coody. He is survived by his brother, Don Coody and wife Clara Lou of Edmond, OK, sister-in-law Marie Coody of Bethany, OK; two daughters, Sandra Wright and husband Dennis of Beaumont, TX and Carol Schram and husband Harold of Kountze, TX, and son, Gary Coody of Silver Spring MD; grandchildren Kevin Schram, Kim Alcorn, Tamara Miller and Jennifer Lyles; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Calvary Baptist Church North Campus in Lumberton, where he was a member. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, TX.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Gary Coody, Mike Coody, Harold Schram, Kevin Schram,
Logan Schram and Dennis Wright
