Near the midnight hour on December 16, 2020, a host of angels escorted Dale L. Peterson to his heavenly home. With no broken hip and his eyesight restored, he is walking the streets of gold reminiscing with family and friends who went home long before him. Dale was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 23, 1926 to John and Anna (nee Neu) Peterson. Dale was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Betty, who survives him. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Donald E. Peterson.
Dale graduated from Benson High School in 1944 and joined the military. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II with the 305 Bomb Group in Germany as an aerial photographer. After being honorably discharged from the military in 1946, he attended the University of Omaha in Nebraska and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Dale worked in the financial field as an accountant and was a whiz with numbers. He always remembered the dates of family birthdays, anniversaries, numerous vacations, and special occasions. One date he particularly cherished was October 12, 1952, the day he married the love of his life, Betty McNeely. For 68 years he always lovingly referred to Betty as “his bride.” Dale enjoyed all types of sports; namely, football, basketball, baseball, and golf. For years Dale was an avid golfer along with Betty and friends when they lived at The Country Club of Miami and The Reserve at LPGA in Port St. Lucie.
In addition to his loving wife Betty of 68 years, he is survived by nephews Thomas Peterson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Harold Peterson and wife Jennifer and family of Omaha, Nebraska; Walter Peterson of Aurora, Colorado; Kenneth Tate, Jr. and wife Regina of Edgewater, Florida; Albert Gomez, Jr. and family of Miami, Florida; and niece Sharon Barker and husband Gene and family of Dunlap, Tennessee. Also he is survived by sisters-in law Sybil LaGoy of Miami, Florida and June Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska.
A memorial service and celebration of Dale’s life will take place at a later date. Rest in peace, Dale. You will be greatly missed by your family and friends.
