Diana Marino, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2024. She was born into an Italian immigrant neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York by her parents Peter Jannello and Elizabeth (Gigilo) Jannello, on November 28th, 1930. Diana married the love of her life John William Marino (US Navy WWII) on June 3rd, 1956, the brother of her best friend Helen Marino. Diana and John lived their entire childhood lives across the street from each other. After honeymooning in Miami, Florida, Diana and John knew they wanted to raise a family in Florida. They built a home in what is now the City of Port St Lucie, where Diana lived until her passing.
She brought two loving daughters into this world Claudia (Jon Robert) Jackson and Linda Marino who were the most important part of her life along with her granddaughter Tori (Victoria Elizabeth Jackson) and her Great Granddaughters Stevie Elizabeth and Minnow (Devyn Rose) to whom she was lovingly known as Gram Gram. She will be sorely missed by all, and left a very memorable impression on all those she met.
Those that knew Diana knew she had never mastered the art of holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. She was a “suck it up, hit her back, if you get hurt doing that don’t come crying to me” kind of mom, but an “Oh Sweetheart, I’ll cut the crust off that bread and shape that sandwich into a heart for you” kind of Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved deeply, was as genuine as they came and a mother, wife, sister and friend that would do anything for them.
Diana was a proud homemaker; and the master of Italian cooking (especially her “Sunday Sauce”), passing her knowledge down to her daughters and granddaughter. She was an avid reader, loved a good card game, and a great glass of wine paired with chocolate covered cherries, which became an annual Christmas tradition treat. She had an impressive collection of spoons which she collected on her travels and were gifted to her from every destination her family visited. She always had a big smile adding her newest one to her collection.
Diana was preceded in death by her husband, John (August 2nd, 1998) and her siblings, Rosemarie, (Peter Calvello), Prudence (Salvatore Macaluso), Natale (Sonny) Jannello, Peter Jannello and Anna Jannello.
A small private family Graveside “Celebration of Life” will be held, in lieu of a service. Having lived to 93 most of her family and friends are unable to attend as they have already made their journeys to greener pastures (and maybe some to hotter places).
For those that wish to honor Diana, memorial contributions can be made “In memory of Diana Marino” to: Treasure Coast Hospice (Ft. Pierce, Florida Location): https://treasurehealth.org/292/Donate
