James Norman Sanders, Sr. went home to heaven on December 9, 2019. James was born in Bennington, Oklahoma and was raised on his family’s cattle ranch in Dallas. The family relocated to San Diego where James graduated high school and enlisted in the Air Force. He served honorably for 20 years.
Following retirement from the Air Force, James attended Clarksville Seminary where he earned a M.S. in Theology and a Th.D. He served as an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God in Maryland and Florida. James also served as the Chaplain at Indian River Correctional Institute in Vero Beach. He later earned a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling at Zoe College in Jacksonville and served many through his private practice, Christian Counseling, and local veterans’ associations.
Through his great love for the Lord, his Savior, and his practical approach to life, James impacted many. A guiding principle of his life was I Peter 4:10, “each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”
James was predeceased by his parents, James and Bella, sister Monette Allen, wife Patricia and sons Brian and Timothy. He is survived by his brother John (Renata) of San Diego, wife Bernadine “Bernie,” son James, Jr. (Sandy) of Palm Harbor, granddaughter Juliet of Tarpon Springs and many very good friends.
Many thanks to all the special people and caregivers who helped him along his journey.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church located at 2330 SE Mariposa Avenue, Port St Lucie, Florida.
