Born in West New York, NJ, MrDad was a resident of Port St. Lucie for 6 years, moving from Miami, FL.
John volunteered for the US Navy and served as an Aviation Electrician-PB4Y in the North Atlantic during WWII.
Prior to retirement, he was an Aviation Electrician for Eastern Airlines in Miami, FL and was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for 36 years.
In 1951 John became a member of the Fulford United Methodist Church in North Miami Beach, FL. After moving to Port St. Lucie in 2006 he attended the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie, FL.
MrDad was a member of the North Miami Beach Tennis Association, winning the 1987 Men’s Double Championship. He was an 8 gallon blood donor for the Community Blood Centers of South Florida’s Red Cross.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Flora Everett Burkert in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Lee David Burkert and his wife Lisa of Port St. Lucie, FL; John Robert Burkert and his wife Bonnie of Dallas, TX; and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held November 3, 2012, 1:00PM at the First United Methodist Church, Port St. Lucie, FL.
