Dear Family - Your mom was a blessing to me, as I’m sure to many others. Independent, young, and far from home (late 90’s), Mary quickly became my mentor, confidant, and a surrogate ‘aunt’ during a time when I didn’t even realize I needed it. She listened to my crazy stories, kept me on my toes (and out of trouble), taught me the school ropes at Morningside & beyond, and loved on me unconditionally. Mary exemplified grace, beauty, and kindness & had my utmost respect and admiration, day 1. I’ll always be grateful for the couple of years she let me tuck under her wings and have & will forever carry her in my heart. 

May her wings continue to wrap around you and yours and may we, each of us touched by her incredibly beautiful & giving spirit, tribute her legacy by paying it forward. Peace and lots of love to y’all, her pride - with sincere sympathy from Tennessee. 

Mary is such a beautiful, elegant lady. I will surely miss her as I had the pleasure of working with her at Morningside and also the honor of calling her friend. Sincerest condolences to the family. She adored all of you. Rest in Peace sweet lady.

Mary Toler was one of a wonderful kind.  With her loving spirit she was always available to extend a helping hand to others, and with her positive, joyful attitude she brought happiness and comfort to those around her.  She will always be in our memories and in our hearts.



Beautiful Mare, you have played so many roles in my life, mentor, colleague, confidant, sister-friend and beloved bunko babe.  It’s amazing how many lives you have touched and taught. A TRUE gem, a strong, southern lady who also knew how to have a great time.  You will be horribly missed, but Jon is once again smiling. (A couple who knew what they had!)

Wheezer was a bright spot in our days. We met Jon and Wheezer through the VFW and shared great fun and laughter during our volunteer experiences with the Asheville, Glenville area veterans and road trips to celebrate the mountains. Even when her activities were curtailed she took responsibility for sunshine cards for VFW Auxiliary members and scholarships for prospective college students. We love you and will miss you.

Mary was a true light in this world and a beautiful spirit in every way possible.  You noticed Mary wherever she was at! Her presence shined brightly.
It was my privilege to know Mary for more than 30 years as a colleague and friend. She touched so many lives in a kind and positive way. 
Mary was a phenomenal wife and mother, a steadfast and endearing friend and a loyal servant to her faith.  She was an incredible human being.
It may just be me but it appears the heavens shine brighter with Mary in them (especially over the mountains of North Carolina). Love you my friend.  Buster Nelson

What an honor to call Mary a friend, she was true to it’s definition; Mary was beautiful inside and outside. I will miss her visits when she came to see Carol.

Weezer was one of those forever friends you are lucky enough to have in your life.  We will miss her dearly!  Our hearts and prayers go out to Stephanie, Jeff and their families.    

It was one of my greatest privileges to know Weezer and will always remember her.

It was a privilege to know Mary/Weezer. She was a kind and gentle spirit.  A beautiful lady always greeting you with a smile.  Her love of family and strength of character were admired by all who knew her. 

I worked closely with Mary in our ESE dept. at MSE for several years before she retired. She had such a gift of making everyone feel like family. She knew how to work hard but always made a point of reminding us to laugh and have fun everyday at lunch.  I’ll always love and miss you Mare!!💔Rest in Peace

Mary (Weezer) & I  went to school together in Ohio and graduated  from Beavercreek.   We took several trips to Sarasota, where she met her husband, John.  I have many fond memories of Weezer throughout the years.  May she rest in peace.

Weezer was a wonderful lady and a dear friend. Enjoyed spending time with her in the mountains of North Carolina. She will be greatly missed.Rest in Peace.

Mary was one of the kindest people I’ve known.  She was an advocate for all children and always had that beautiful smile on her face.   She will be missed.  

Favorite memory is Mary's smile.  Not only did I have her children in my Kindergarten class at Morningside, but she was my son's, Kevin Hicks, third grade teacher.  She had a wonderful, positive attitude.  I am so sad to read of her passing and my payers will be with the family.

Mary Louise was a friend and member of VFW Auxiliary  Post 10685 in Glenville, NC.  She loved her mountain home and along with her husband and other Toler family members spent many wonderful years on our plateau on top of the mountain by Lake Glenville.  Her gentle spirit and brave heart will be missed but we know she is now at peace and with ber beloved husband.

Mary Toler was a beautiful person, inside and out.  Kind, loving, smart, accomplished, realistic and generous.  What a wife and mother Mary was!  She loved her family with her whole heart and soul.  Mary loved the beach and the mountains. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Mary will miss her remarkable presence.  Praying for her loved ones' comfort and healing and sending sincere  condolences  to the Toler Family. 

Mary was such a good friend to my mom (Marti Goorey).  She was so kind and checked in on her frequently even after mom had retired from PSL schools.  May her memory be a blessing.  


Mary will be missed by all.  She was a special friend.  I will keep all of her family and friends in my prayers. 
 I remember when Mary and I went to pick up flagstone for the entry to the cabin in Cashiers.  It was a lot of work , but worth it.  
Mary and Jon are together once again.❤❤ 

I had the great honor of knowing Mary Toler, as a great friend and colleague at Morningside Elementary. She was a mentor, a voice of reason that kept me on the right track, and we had many great laughs and fun times together at MSE. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
