Richard Bruce Sr came into this life on May 3, 1922 in Robert Village in the town of Tableland, Trinidad, West Indes. He was the second child of six children born to David and Victoria Bruce. He graduated from Elswick Presbyterian School in Tableland,Trinidad. He was energetic, curious and sought opportunities to pursue his dreams which led him to the United States. He moved to New York City in 1955 as a young adult seeking education and opportunities. He attended Long Island University, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He served his career in the health care industry, retiring in 1997. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Selena Bruce, a registered nurse decided to make Port St Lucie their home which they shared together until Ms. Selena departed from this earth in November 2006. Mr. Bruce had a love for classical music, jazz, beautiful flowers and a love for growing fruits and vegetables on his land.
Though quiet in disposition, he was inquisitive, widely read, enjoyed traveling and learning about other cultures, countries, and people. He enjoyed working in his garden, scanning the internet, and growing his spirituality. He was strongly committed to this church, expressed by singing in the choir and fellowship with fellow church members.
He often spoke fondly of growing up in Trinidad and always dreamed of returning home and living there.
Cherishing his memories are his brother, Steven, sisters, Beulah Sylvester and Dorothy Pierre, children, Michael, Joan, Lystra, Richard Jr, and David and grandchildren, Joanna and Richard III.
On behalf of the family, I would like to personally thank each of you for extending your friendship, fellowship, and love as expressed by your participation in his homegoing celebration today. He had prepared for a long time for this day, which enables him to be in a better place sitting at the side of our Lord.
