

Richard (Rick) Hency, 68, of Port St. Lucie, FL formerly of Onondaga, MI died Wednesday, September 21, 2017 at Jupiter Medical Center from injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident in February. He was born in Battle Creek, MI the son of Raymond and Erma Hency. He had been a resident of Florida for the last three years moving from Onondaga, MI formerly from Marshall, MI
Prior to retirement he went back to college on the VA bill and received his business degree, he owned and operated Kleen 2000 in Battle Creek, MI for 10 years, and he was business man of the year, also was recognized by the Department of the Military for his continued support and hiring of military veterans, Small Business of the Year Award in 2003, and member of the Lions in Battle Creek, MI, Chair of the Ambassador Committee, Battle Creek Chamber of Commerce. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U. S. Army. He received many medals of valor which includes, 1 purple hearts, Bronze Star, National Defense Service, Vietnam Military Service ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Military Ribbon,
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Onondaga, Holt, and Albion, all in Michigan, a member of the American Legion Riders Post 248, Michigan and a member of the Patriot Riders, He was interviewed by The Veterans History Project from Grand Valley State University, Michigan to be used in their documentary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Erma Hency. He is survived by, his son, Graham Hency and his wife, Maegan of Fishers, IN, his daughter, Emily Hency of Fishers, IN, his sister, Jackie (Hency) Kendall of Fort Pierce, FL, two half brothers, Dale Hency, of Massachusetts, and Ted Hency of Appleton, WI.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice which helps veterans especially those who have PTSD.
A memorial service will be held at later date in Fort Custer Military Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
