Velma L. Wisdom was born and named Velma L. Wood on June 23,1953 in Ewarton , St. Catherine, Jamaica West Indies. Born to the late Joyce Marshall and Aston Wood she was brought up in the Catholic faith.
Velma L.Wisdom received her formal education from Dinthill Technical High School in Jamaica West Indies. She attended the School of Business in Jamaica as well. Later on in life she pursued her dream of becoming a fashion designer by attending a fashion design school in New York City. And she cultivated her passion for gardening by remaining a lifelong student of horticulture throughout her entire life.
Velma L. Wisdom migrated to the United States in 1973 and lived in New York City where she started a new chapter in her life. In 1976 she migrated back to Jamaica where she got married to Ferdinal Wisdom and established a life in Jamaica with their four children, Ricardo Wisdom, Ketura Wisdom, Ferdinal C. Wisdom and Napewter Wisdom. She then relocated back to the United States with her family in April of 1985 to New York City and eventually settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she lived for 5 years. While in Wisconsin, she worked as a C.N.A. and created roots for her family.
After raising a family she retreated to warmer weather moving to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1995 and began to embark on a serious mission to pursue her horticulture passion. She found employment at Regional Memorial Hospital where she was employed for 18 years as a P.C.A. She continued to work in Ft Lauderdale and eventually secured a piece of land in Ft Pierce, Florida in 2002.
Although she lived in Ft. Pierce, it was the “land” she lived on. She was known to be in the garden spending time with her flowers and vegetables more than anything else. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed crocheting, sewing, bargain shopping, traveling and exploring new areas.
Velma L.Wisdom took ill July 2014 and gave a mighty fight until the Lord called her home on December 12, 2014.
