

She grew up in Lawrence and Boston, MA and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1942. When she was 19, she moved to Miami, FL and there she met and married her beloved husband, Vernon C. Shortsleeves on Sept. 5, 1946. Vern was a Sgt. in the U. S. Marines at the time and he and Wini traveled through their married lives, with Vern, who was a Marine Corp. pilot, being promoted through the ranks and retired in 1967 with the rank of Major. During this time they lived in California, Hawaii and North Carolina. Upon retirement they lived in New Hampshire, California and Illinois. Wini owned and worked in many successful travel agencies and during that time they traveled the world, visiting Russia, Kenya, China, Japan and many European countries. She was very proud of the fact that she had also been on over 100 cruises. She sold her last travel agency in 1980 and moved to Champlain, Illinois for a few years and then the move that made her the happiest, to Orange Blossom Gardens (now known as The Villages) in Florida. They were among the first people to move there and were very active in building Saint Timothy’s Church. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends in Massachusetts in 1996 and shortly thereafter they moved to Nashua, NH. After Vern’s death in 1997, Wini moved back to The Villages and lived there until 2010 when she had her last move to her comfortable life at Horizon Bay in Port Saint Lucie, Flordia.
Winifred was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary (Conheeney) Concannon, her husband Vernon and her brother Patrick Concannon and his wife Dorothy, brother James Concannon and her brother-in-law Jack Norton. She leaves her beloved brother Jack (Maureen) Concannon of Whitman, MA, sister-in-law Dorothy Concannon of Rockland, MA, sister Eileen (Jack) Nickerson of North Attleboro, MA and Patricia Norton of Port Saint Lucie, FL and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial service will be held at Horizon Bay in Port Saint Lucie, Florida at a later date.
