

Charles W. Fernald, age 98, of Naples passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a proud veteran, Charles lived a life marked by service, strength, and deep love for his family.
Born on May 29, 1927, Charles bravely served his country during World War II as a highly decorated gunner aboard a Navy Merchant Marine ship. He served with honor in both the European and Pacific theaters, defending liberty in the German and Japanese conflicts. His courage and dedication were a testament to the values he carried throughout his life.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva S. Fernald, who passed on February 21, 2000, and by his children Roger Fernald and son in law Charles Martin, as well as his grandson Kevin Fernald. He is lovingly remembered by his children Donna Martin, Pauline Leland, Shirley Smith, Susan Shaw, Richard and Mary Fernald, and his daughter in law Alice Fernald and her two children Mike and Chris. Charles’s legacy continues through many grandchildren Daryl and Gina Fernald, Tammy Leland, Trina Leland, Tracy and Shane Bernia, Carey Martin, Colleen and Troy Morse, Brenda Caouette, Ray and Jamie Smith, Jessica and Chad Chase, Nicholas Fernald and Mary Spencer, Derrick Fernald, Sonia and Melissa Fernald. He was also blessed with several great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory, values, and stories for generations to come.
Charles will be remembered for his quiet strength, his enduring patriotism, and his deep love for his family. He lived a life of purpose and resilience, and his impact will not be forgotten.
A private family service will be held August 24th 2025 at his residence at 365 Edes Falls Rd., Naples Maine. All are invited to spread the ashes of Charles and Geneva at the riverside. If you want to attend we ask that you bring memories, photos, and stories of your time spent with them both. This will be a tribute to there life together.
