

During World War II, Faith worked at a saw mill where she operated a large saw. Cutting slats for ammunition boxes used in the British War effort. At this time American soldiers moved into a camp 3 miles from her home in Maiden Newton to prepare for D-Day. Faith and her friends attended a dance where she met the love of her life, James R. Coulthard an American Soldier. They were married May 12,1944, just weeks before D-Day. Faith continued working at the mill until Jim returned. Jim’s service came to an end in 1945 and he went back to the United States to prepare a home for his young bride and their soon to be baby. Faith came to America on a ship (with other G.I. brides and children) with her six month old daughter Cheryll in 1946.
Upon arrival Faith joined Jim at the Coulthard Brothers Farm which he owned with his brothers John and Van. In 1953 the roadside market was started which Faith helped to manage. In 1966, Jim and Faith left the farm and moved to Cape Elizabeth and started their own greenhouse business. Faith then began her twenty year career working for Alford Lake Camp. She also enjoyed helping her nephew Bob Coulthard at his greenhouse in Windham.
Faith was a former member of the Pythian Sisters, Scarborough Lioness Club, Pleasant Hill Hose Company Engine #3 Auxiliary, past president of the Auxiliary American Legion Post #76, former officer in the Rebekah Lodge #1 and an officer in the Amaranth Lodge in Westbrook. Faith was very active in these organizations. Faith’s volunteer work also included Brownies and Girl Scouts when her girls were young. For many years Faith volunteered at the Viking Nursing Home in Cape Elizabeth. Faith was a member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Scarborough. She enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing, singing, gardening and traveling. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to, and loved their visits.
Faith was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Lottie Wellman, a sister Hilda and her husband Stan Davis, brothers Jack Wellman and Charles and his wife Edna Matthews. Her husbands James R. Coulthard, Richard Hunnewell and Eli Mayo. Faith was also predeceased by her son-in-law Richard W. Stevens and special sister Mary E. Coulthard.
She is survived by four daughters: Cheryll Green and husband Glenn, Topsham, Jo-Deen Stevens, Kennebunk, Avis Leavitt and husband Lee, Scarborough, and Kaye Snow, Saco. Five step children: Gloria and husband Joe Leatherwood, Shirley Hunnewell, Patsy and husband Elwood Chambers, Lee and Debbie Hunnewell, Fred and Vicky Hunnewell. Nine grandchildren: Richard and Susan Frost, Marilyn and Bill Crandall, Heather Stevens Gelston, Dana and Denise Stevens, Lisa and Todd Stone, Ami and Mike Bradley, Jason Leavitt, Erica Snow and James Snow. Eleven great grandchildren: Tatyana and Pashka Frost, Brittany and Jeffrey Crandall, Cody and Julia Gelston, Emma Stevens, Brittanie and Brandi Bradley, Grace Snow and Mikayla Lewey. Surviving also are several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Faith’s doctors and their staff and are grateful to the Hospice of Southern Maine of Scarborough for their wonderful support during her final days.
