

She was born in Portland, ME on May 28, 1936, a daughter of the late Raymond & Jeanette (Miller) Gurney. She grew up in Portland, attending local area schools and graduated from Deering High School as a member of the class of 1954.
Gloria owned and operated her own florist shop, GiGi’s Silks in Florida. She also worked for Sea World for about six years and Boardwalk and Baseball in Florida as well.
She was a longtime member of the Woodbine Rebekah Lodge in Portland and acted as a Girl Scout Leader when her children were younger. She would make and sell beaded jewelry and enjoyed activities such as quilting, water color paintings, music and many other types of crafts. She also played the ukulele, the accordion and the organ, which she played for her church, the First Free Methodist Church in Portland.
She is survived by her four children, Carl Carpenter Jr. of Michigan, Janet Swann of Nashville, TN, Teresea Carpenter of Windham and Randy Carpenter also of Michigan. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren as well as her sister P. Jaye Winchester of Pawcatuck, CT, her brother Donald Gardner and his wife Gail of Sandy, OR and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the First Free Methodist Church, 140 Congress Street, Portland, ME.
