
He was born in Portland, ME on October 24, 1932 a son of the late James M. “Mel” & Doris (Sorenson) Semple Sr. Jim attended the Portland school system, including Portland High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball.
Jim enlisted in the Air Force in December 1952 and began working for SD Warren, Westbrook Division of Scott Paper in 1956. He retired in 1986 as a supervisor in the Solvent Coater Division. After he retired, Jim worked part-time at a golf course as a starter-ranger in Florida.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf and was very close to his beloved dogs Cheyenne and Tammi. He was an avid New England sport fan, routing for the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox, as well as a Braves fan.
Besides his wife Lucy, he is survived by his sons Glenn S. Semple and his wife Polla of Gorham, ME and James M. Semple III and his wife Becky of Baldwin, ME. He also leaves three grandchildren Tyler, Erika and Derek as well as a sister Joyce Johnson of Lyman, ME, a brother Bob Semple of Naples, ME and a step son Steve Ridlon of Albuquerque, NM. He was also the step father of the late Charlie and Deane Ridlon.
