
Passed away at Maine Medical Center, Portland Maine on Sunday, January 21, 2023 from complications with COPD.
Janet was born & raised in Portland, Maine on August 8, 1958, the daughter of Robert W. Howard and Marion P. Bourgeois.
Jan attended Portland High School and graduated with High Honors in 1977. In her final two years at Portland she had been selected by her accounting teacher to work after school hours and summers at the U.S. Savings Bond Division at the Portland Federal Building. She received an MTA (Merit Teachers Award).
She started her career Portland News Co. distributing books all over New England for about 8 years. She then decided to switch jobs & volunteered to work in the records department of Maine Medical Center where she was later hired. She still has her name on a plaque there for Employee of the Month. Another volunteer job she helped an accountant friend correct W-2 employee forms at the Brunswick Naval Base. She went on to do temporary jobs for the City of Portland at the State of Maine School Department at Martin’s Point following a stint at some well-known warehouse & food production jobs at Barber Foods & Jordans. She went on to get certified with the State of Maine for Home Health Care to aid her mother in geriatric years.
Jan never married or had children, but enjoyed being a favorite Auntie to her nieces & nephews.
Eventually, due to physical disabilities with back and lung problems, she retired to the Portland Center for Assisted Living where she found new friends and a loving staff.
She will be forever missed by many.
She was predeceased by her parents & brothers Raymond, Ronald, and Richard Howard. She is survived by her sisters Marlene Hincks and Ellaine Howard, her brothers Russell and Robert Howard, an uncle Richard Powell, along with many cousins & nieces & nephews.
A private family service & graveside burial at Forest Cemetery, South Portland will be announced at a later date.
