Jan moved to Portland with her family when she was 5 years old attending Portland schools graduating from Portland High in 1969 and the Maine Medical School of Radiology in 1971. She married Robert Milliken in 1970 and they were blessed with two wonderful children Heather Gilbert husband Chris and Bobby Milliken wife Katie Poore. She was further blessed with five beautiful grandchildren Olivia and Sydney Gilbert and Nathan, Lucas and Abigail Milliken.
During Jan’s professional career at the Maine Medical Radiation Therapy department she was known for her compassionate care often bringing home patients to stay with her family while they were having treatment. In her later career she owned and operated Falmouth X-ray where her sole goal was to provide a private compassionate place for women having mammograms.
One of Jan’s passions in life was jewelry. She was the go to person for many family members and friends when they had a question about jewelry particularly young couples looking for the perfect engagement ring. She was very generous with her jewelry often giving a bracelet, necklace or ring to someone she thought needed a lift or just because.
Jan’s true gift to the world was spiritual. Her compassion and her love was felt by many of her family and friends. She was always ready to pray with and for all in need of prayer and compassionate love. She will be sadly missed but know this that she will be looking out for all while resting in the tender arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Almighty.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Bill. Jan is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren, her sisters Helen Darling of Fort Worth Texas and Linda Emery (Mike) of Seymour Lake Vermont along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr Dugan and Dr Wrona as well as the many nurses and staff at New England Cancer for the excellent care Jan received for the past eight years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate care in her final days.
A private gravesite service will be held a later date.
