

Yarmouth- Mark Douglas Hough, 54, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 15th , 2014. He was born on June 17th, 1959 in Portland Maine to his parents Edward and Barbara Hough. Mark grew up on Town Landing Road in Falmouth, attending Falmouth schools, Tabor Academy and graduated from Cheverus High School in 1978 as an accomplished athlete in baseball, basketball, and football. He also attended SMVTI, NEWRI program. Mark maintained many close friendships from his young, adventurous years that resulted in a lifetime of stories and memories that are unforgettable to many. Mark had a deep love for the ocean, and spent much time working on the waterfront lobstering and clamming, as well as time spent with family and friends on his beloved vessel “Sea Story”.
Mark was very passionate about politics and the community, serving two terms on the Yarmouth Town Council, a member of the Harbor and Waterfront Committee, and the Cumberland County Budget Advisory Committee, serving as Chairman on all committees during his involvement. He was Co-Founder of the Royal River Fishing Tournament, Co-Director of the Yarmouth Clam Festival Parade, and Clam Festival Steering Committee member as well as a 15 year member of the Yarmouth Rotary Club where he was a two time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award. Mark was the co-owner of Hough & Company, building contractors, and Huffy’s Sandwich Shop.
Mark was the proud father of his two children, Hillary and Dillon, who viewed him as their beloved coach, mentor, storyteller, and friend.
He is survived by his children Hillary Hough and Dillon Hough, their mother Barbara Wheaton (his wife of 26 years), his mother, Barbara Masury, his sister Kathryn Hough Myhaver, and brother Jonathan Hough. He is predeceased by his brother Gregory Hough, and father Edward Hough, grandparents Reverend Howard and Margaret Hough, and grandmother Lillian Tubbs.
On Saturday, February 22nd, 2014, 11:00am at the First Parish Church in Yarmouth Maine there will be a memorial service with reception to follow.
