He was born in Portland on March 24, 1986, the only child of Richard and Carlene Kessler. He graduated from Cheverus High School in 2004 and from the University of Southern Maine in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology.
While attending USM, he worked for the City of Portland, Recreation Division in the before and after care program at Hall School. He was loved by the staff and kids.
Mitch was loving, loyal, funny, charming, athletic, smart, generous and a kind hearted person. He had a wonderful group of friends that he loved (too numerous to list) but they know who they are.
He had a passion for golf, basketball, baseball, music, dancing, hanging with friends, poker, sneakers and sun glasses. He loved his two mini bull terrier dogs (Snoopy and Jetta).
Mitchell is survived by his parents, Richard and Carlene, his “Bubbe”, Eleanor Kessler, great aunt, Gertrude Schloff, aunts and uncles: Maxine Kessler, Ken and Betty Kessler, Raymond and Elinor Fogg, Francine & Steve Macisso, Robert and Tracey Fogg, Carole and Don Dunphe and many special cousins. Extended family: Patty Jo Walton, Diane and Kenny Shone, “O” Diane Hopkins, Tom and Ann Kussy, Gerry Pelletier, Janice Kimball, Elizabeth Morgan, Elizabeth Cummings and Tammy Bellino. Special thanks to: Tom Dyhrberg, Mike and Dee Dee Couture, the guardian angels of the Portland PD, and especially his longtime girlfriend, Sarah Paiement.
His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Nothing will ever be the same. We will miss your million dollar smile that could light up a room and that twinkle in those beautiful brown eyes when we knew you were up to something. In spite of this heart breaking tragedy, Mitchell has left this world a hero by donating his organs to the New England Organ Bank. His generous gift has already saved several lives. Rest in peace sweet cakes. No services are planned at this time. A celebration of his life will be held sometime in the future.
“Irish Blessing”
May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mitchell’s name to:
