Born in Norwood, MA on October 20, 1951, Ron was the son of the late Roy M. and Annie M. (Giandomenico) Lee of Walpole, MA. Besides his partner, Andrea, Ron is survived by his sons R. Michael Lee of Cambridge, MA, Craig A. Lee of Bloomington, MN, and Rory and Taylor Maloney of Gray, ME. Ron was the brother of Roy F. Lee and his wife, Tina, of Walpole, Robert Lee of Brewster, MA, and Joanne Harrison and her husband, Jeffrey, of Naples, ME. Ron also leaves behind his many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as his beloved dogs and cats.
He graduated from Walpole High School in 1969, where he lettered in both hockey and baseball, and attended Boston College. Ron was a hard worker and wore many hats during his lifetime, including Production Supervisor at IDEXX, Distribution Manager at the Portland Press Herald, taxi driver, bartender, groundskeeper, and Golf Course Superintendent at Freeport Country Club.
Ron loved sports, especially baseball, hockey, fishing, and golf. He made the high school baseball all-star team, which played a game at Fenway Park, and was scouted and offered a contract from the Chicago Cubs, which he turned down. Ron was also a well-respected handicapper in horse racing. He was a self-taught man, with a thirst for knowledge and memory that was unparalleled. He enjoyed history, in particular, and took the National Teaching Certification Exam in History, just for fun, and passed it without studying. He possessed great wisdom and intelligence, had many talents, and an incredible sense of humor. He was also a very gifted guitarist. Ron was an understated man, never feeling the need to boast about himself. He would rather let others feel important. Ron was a friend to all who knew him and he loved family and friends above all else. He was a magical man who embraced life and taught us all to live fully and without regrets.
The family wishes to thank Doctors Ian Bristol, Mathew Dugan, and Mark Wrona, and the staff at Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, Gibson 5 at MMC, and Hospice of Southern Maine.
A memorial celebration of Ron’s life will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street in Walpole, MA. Services will followed by luncheon at 2:00 pm at the Lafayette House on 109 Washington St. (Rt. 1), Foxboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Ron’s memory to The Jett Foundation for the research and treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy at 68 Evergreen Street, Suite 1, Kingston, MA 02364 (info@jettfoundation).
